The Museum of Emigration in Gdynia has completed the digitization process and publication of another part of its collections – nearly 1000 objects have been digitized, cataloged, and placed on the website www.zbiory.muzeumemigracji.pl.
Collections of the Museum of Emigration in Gdynia:
The Museum of Emigration in Gdynia is a place where unique collections have been presented and gathered since 2015, aiming to showcase both the diversity and universality of the migration experiences of Polish men and women abroad, as well as those for whom Poland became a new home.
Digitization of collections:
As part of the „Cultural Digitalization 2023” project, the Museum has processed, digitized, and made freely available on the website www.zbiory.muzeumemigracji.pl a virtual museum featuring 1000 objects, including:
- 3 „family” collections (focused on the lives of three families) with emigration themes, such as a photographic album documenting the life of a Polish family on a farm in New Jersey in the early 20th century.
- Collections related to the life of Józef Mielczarek – an emigrant to Africa (1948–1974) and Brazil (1974–1987).
- 2 items from library collections.
- Collections of museum exhibits and items belonging to Polish emigrants, including a metal prisoner identification tag from a stalag and a notebook from wartime, a wedding souvenir from a Polish couple in 1918 from Pittsburgh, a guitar, and a vest belonging to Jacek Kaczmarski.
- Collections related to voyages on the ships m/s Batory and ts/s Stefan Batory.
Using the new website:
Users can now browse objects and search for them using various filters (e.g., keywords, author, publisher, or creation time) without any hindrance. The internet gallery can be accessed through any web browser on a computer or mobile device.
