The largest and most popular genealogical database worldwide – ancestry.com – is available to visitors of the Emigration Museum in Gdynia. Anyone who wants to reconstruct their family history will get insight into hundreds of millions of original documents scanned.

By the end of the year, every Wednesday between 3 pm and 6 pm, genealogical search specialists will be available for you. Dominik Pactwa and Marcin Maniecki will assist you in handling the webpage and provide tips on how to conduct your search.

Ancestry.com is a treasure trove of documents exceptionally useful for genealogical searches – apart from birth, marriage and death certificates, also censuses from various countries, lists of passengers emigrating from Europe to the United States, Canada and other countries, military registers, address books and collections of obituaries can be found there.

The portal is particularly helpful in researching the history of families whose past was connected with the United States, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Italy, or Scandinavian countries. This applies both to emigration to these countries and to immigration to Poland. Due to, among others, the vastness of shared documents and the variety of collections, for many years the portal has been ranked among the top websites devoted to the subject of genealogical search.

In the United States, access to ancestry.com is offered, for example, by state libraries and archives. In Poland, the Emigration Museum is the first public institution enable the use of the resources collected on the webpage. It is possible to use six publicly available, multimedia genealogical stands during the Museum openings hours without registration. Participation in the consultations also does not require signing up in advance.
