Soon, we will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of Poland’s accession to the European Union. This is an opportunity to closely examine the experiences of millions of Polish women and men who, after Poland joined the EU, decided to leave the country and pursue their life goals abroad.
European dream. Post-accession emigration 2004-2024 is the latest research project by the Emigration Museum in Gdynia, during which we will explore the DREAMS of Polish post-accession emigrants.
A New Perspective
This is a completely new and original perspective in research on this group of male and female emigrants. Aspirations and desires, visions, and pursuits build the dynamics of the entire spectrum of migratory phenomena and processes. Therefore, we can say that dreams are one of the driving forces behind emigration. We intend to examine their role in the decision-making process to leave the country and see how the migration phenomenon itself functions in the imaginations of migrants.
Become a Co-Creator of the Catalog of Dreams
The #EuropeanDream project is also an opportunity to look into the past, collectively reminisce, and summarize the experiences of the past 20 years. We will try to examine the aspirations and goals of emigrants and categorize them – we will create a unique catalog of dreams. We will also assess how Poland’s accession to the EU influenced the realization of the dreams of Polish women and men who decided to emigrate. Were they able to achieve their dream goals?
The survey is directed at adults who, at the age of at least 16, emigrated from Poland after our country’s accession to the EU (i.e., in the years 2004-2023). The data collection process will run from mid-October to the end of November this year. The publication of the report presenting the survey results is planned for May 2024.
