A special mention for Museum Without Exception

Our project „Museum Without Exception” directed to persons with disabilities has been accorded a special mention in the contest „Gdynia Without Barriers”! The gala of the 18th edition of the contest took place on May, 29 in the Musical Theatre in Gdynia.

The aim of the „Gdynia Without Barriers” contest is to reward the authors of ideas and activities that help break down the stereotypes associated with the perception of people with disabilities. The awards are accorded to institutions, organizations and individuals. In the contest there are rewarded solutions and initiatives (existing or at a project stage) which remove all sorts of obstacles: architectural, communicational and social ones, that hinder the daily lives of people with disabilities.

The Emigration Museum in Gdynia and the project „Museum Without Exception” were awarded „for openness, creativity and sensitivity of the employees who designate innovative accessibility standards for all”.

Gdynia Without Barriers Medal was granted to Beata and Dariusz Podlasek who run Family-type Children’s Home providing foster family care, and to Foundation for People with Autism and Other Development Disorders ADAPA for many years’ activities for people with autism and other development disorders, in particular for the idea and the implementation of the innovative „Gdynia Fish” project.

Museum Without Exception

The „Museum Without Exception” project is intended for people with vision disabilities, for the deaf, deafblind, as well as for those with intellectual disabilities. The guides (including experts in audio description and sign language interpretation) present the permanent exhibition of the Emigration Museum in Gdynia free of charge. The admission to the exhibition is also free. The next edition of the project was launched on May,15.

In the framework of the „Museum Without Exception 2017”, it will be possible to have provided guided tours with Polish sign language interpretation or the manually coded language system. Guides proficient in audio description will help people with vision disabilities to get to know the building and to discover various elements of the exposition. Deafblind persons will have provided support of qualified interpreters-guides. Guides of people with intellectual disabilities, in turn, depending on their needs, may get the group familiar with the information on the main threads of the exhibition in an accessible way, as well as assist individuals, accompanying them during the whole visit and enabling individual reception of the museum.

The offer of sign language interpretation applies to individual lectures and meetings delivered regularly at the Emigration Museum. Information about specific lectures can be found on the website www.POLSKA1.pl and in the social media.

In the framework of „Museum Without Exception 2017” there is also available a free workshop offer designed for adults and children with intellectual and vision disabilities as well as for the deaf. The workshops will be held until the end of November. It is possible to arrange the dates individually.
