Sister Wood – another guest of the summer series of concerts at the Emigration Museum
A charismatic drummer from Poland and two British ladies, whose musical talent delighted the leader of Coldplay. Such a blend guarantees success. Sister Wood will play at the terrace of the Emigration Museum on 18th August. The band was nominated for the Fryderyk award after releasing its first single.
The band will play as a part of the Concerts with the view of the world. It is a series of meetings with the unique exponents of the young alternative scene. Most of the presented bands are formed of musicians of several nationalities, who share the common language of music, which is their passion. Their songs show that travel and the experience of emigration allow to develop artistic awareness or find a unique and personal sound. The unique terrace of the Emigration Museum’s is a location which provides a holiday atmosphere with a view of a working port and the natural special effects in the form of picturesque sunsets.
The series of concerts was opened in July with energetic indie rock by BeMy. This time, you will be able to listen to the hypnotic melodies by Sister Wood, the new project by Łukasz Moskal as well as two British sisters – Rachel and Sarah Wood. Moskal is a famous Polish musician who played with Zakopower, Tworzywo Sztuczne, Kasia Nowoska or Justyna Steczkowska. Rachel and Sarah Wood have been performing on the British scene for ten years with musicians like Nigel Kennedy. In 2009, they won the Make It, Break It competition as the SahReal band. Chris Martin, the leader of Coldplay was one of its jury members. The jury appreciated their fantastic voices as well as great lyrics and their ability to create ambient, touching pieces.
The musicians met in London and soon started cooperating, which brought fantastic results immediately. In 2015, they received a Fryderyk award nomination for their first single „Under Covers” in the New Face of Phonography category. In March 2015, they released the Language Barriers album, after which the media called them the most promising band of 2015. Łukasz Moskal’s powerful drums complement Sarah’s keyboard and Rachel’s violin in a wonderful manner. The beautiful Wood sisters’ vocals provide a fantastic finishing touch. Sister Wood’s music consists of minimalist arrangements, fresh compositions and dreamy atmosphere.
The tickets to the concert can be bought for 10 zł at the Emigration Museum’s ticket office or at the www.bilety24.pl website.
Concerts with a view of the world promote artists who have come to Poland from various directions and brought pieces of their cultures with them or those who looked for inspirations and new sounds abroad and became renowned. However, this division is not bipolar. Most of the bands are thrilling mixtures of several nationalities, who share the common passion and language of music. Their compositions show how travel and the experience of emigration develops their artistic awareness and lets them find new sounds and cross more and more borders. The series of concerts at the Emigration Museum’s terrace with the view of the Gdynia port started in the summer of 2015. Then, you could listen to João de Sousa & Fado Polaco from Portugal, the Polish-German Eric Shoves Them in His Pockets band or Kari, an award-showered Polish vocalist who records in London. In this years edition, we are still going to hear one of the most popular Polish indie rock bands – Paula i Karol (25th August 2016, 7:00 PM).
