The symphony composed on the request of the Emigration Museum by the Oscar winner is now available on DVD and CD! Emigra – The Endless Symphony tells the story of a journey into the unknown, of fears and hopes experienced once a man leaves their country and starts a new life.
The work about emotions felt when leaving the home country was created specially on the request of the Emigration Museum in Gdynia. The author, not incidentally, is an emigrant himself. Jan A.P. Kaczmarek, the winner of the Academy Award for Best Original Score for Finding Neverland, left Poland and moved to the United States in the 1980s.
The world premiere of the multimedia performance EMIGRA – The Endless Symphony took place on February 25, 2017 in the Gdynia Arena hall. Starring more than 100 artists, the performance was made in collaboration with musicians from The Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Sopot under the baton of Wojciech Rajski, the Academic Choir of the University of Gdansk and Zjednoczone Stany Perkusji group – ten dynamic drummers who left the audience enthused by the music.
EMIGRA – The Endless Symphony is a musical impression of the emigration experience. Creating the work, Jan A.P. Kaczmarek, an emigrant himself, referred to his own experiences which had led him to the New World. Despite having seen a great many stories documenting the Polish emigration over the last 200 years and being aware of its diversity, he claims that in order to produce a true and convincing piece of work, it must be created from a personal point of view. EMIGRA – The Endless Symphony takes us on a long journey – from the moment of the decision on the departure, through the parting, the emotions, the fears, the expectations, to the arrival at the destination, often accompanied by the euphoria, which is the punchline of the symphony. It is about the emigration experiences, which are important also for Jan A.P. Kaczmarek, the winner of the Academy Award for Best Original Score for Finding Neverland, one of the most outstanding composers in the world who lives and works in Los Angeles.
„I still can see and hear this wonderful spectacle! The thrilling performance of EMIGRA is a triumph of music and artists, but also a success of thinking about art as the language to speak about difficult moments in our history: the common one and the one known only to our family and friends. Bravo!” – Agnieszka Szydłowska, Trojka radio station journalist.
„EMIGRA is a personal, musical expedition into the depths of the emigration experience. Impression, reflection, metaphor, thrill! In the context of the Polish history and today’s world, it is a very important, inspirational topic.” – Jan A.P. Kaczmarek.
