Do you enjoy taking a close look at your city? Are you of the opinion that a city is more than a simple sum of streets, citizens, and sidewalks?You feel like you want to have your input in the ever changing appearance of Gdynia?Citizens particularly sensitive to the aesthetic of their public space are the target of the new initiative by the Gdynia Design Centre and the Emigration Museum in Gdynia – moderated walks through Gdynia.Their goal is to take a closer look at chosen routes in the city keeping in mind their friendliness, accessibility, and aesthetic.The walks, currently under planning, constitute a preparation to the workshops “Gdynia – Design for All” with Pete Kercher launching in November.
The idea for these walks has been elaborated by the Department of Social Innovations of the Pomorski Science and Technology Park, that introduces most of its activities as part of a dialogue with the citizens of the city.Gdynia Design Centre has decided to use this proven communication scheme in order to learn citizens’ opinions about the road to the Marine Station – the future seat of the Emigration Museum in Gdynia. The purpose of this joint initiative is not only to make this space more attractive visually, but also to launch a discussion about where artistic interventions could improve the road’s appearance, as well as the comfort of pedestrian communication it represents.
The walk will begin at the Kaszubski Square in Gdynia and will lead us all the way to the Marine Station.It will be the perfect occasion to take a closer look at this – architecturally very interesting, yet only sporadically visited – part of town from a new perspective. All the collected information will be used during the 2nd edition of “Gdynia – Design for All” workshop planned for November, which will be conducted by Pete Kercher, an established designer and the ambassador of EIDD Design for All Europe.On this occasion, meetings with students will creatively improve the appearance of the route and design it in order to satisfy the expectations of future strollers.
The walks will be held on two occasions: October 17 at 5.30 p.m. and October 19 at 11 a.m. next to the statue of Antoni Abraham on the Kaszubski Square in Gdynia.
