17th September 2016

Polish language workshops:
Location: Emigration Museum in Gdynia Polska Street, multimedia room
1:30PM-3:30PM – level: elementary
4:00PM-6PM – level: advanced

About the project:

Multicultural Gdynia – Tradition of Hospitality is a project, which aims to allow immigrants from the east – Russia and Ukraine – to get to know the inhabitants of the city better. A rich, several month long programme will help immigrants improve their language skills and learn something about Gdynia or Polish culture.

Immigrants get to know Gdynia during walks in Ukrainian [українською мовою], Russian [на русском языке] and English [ENGLISH]. They will also have a chance to participate in a special tour of the Emigration Museum exhibition, where they will be able to explore both the history of Gdynia’s inhabitants and all Poles.

People who are interested in improving their knowledge of Polish will have a chance to do so during Saturday workshops. They will be organised in the form of four language marathons, which have been prepared by Nicolas Rougier PhD, a foreign language teaching methodologist from the University of Gdańsk. Everyone can expand their vocabulary during conversations and engaging games in a friendly café atmosphere.

In the autumn, on the other hand, we will encourage both the native inhabitants of Gdynia and migrants to take an active part in the International Migrants Day. We have planned theatre workshops for the participants. They have been prepared by the Strefa WolnoSłowa foundation. Thanks to the workshops, they will learn more about one another and plan the events for 18th December – they will decide if the inhabitants will be invited to cooking workshops, music classes, dance classes, fashion shows or art classes.

The project was co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. The Immigrant Support Centre is the project’s partner.
