Where to work? Problems of contemporary economic migrations

WE KINDLY INVITE VISITORS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 4TH INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE: „WHERE TO WORK? PROBLEMS OF CONTEMPORARY ECONOMIC MIGRATIONS”, ORGANISED BY THE EMIGRATION MUSEUM IN GDYNIA

24—25 October 2019 Emigration Museum in Gdynia

The search for employment opportunities plays a major role in international migrations in the modern world. One of the factors that contribute to the greater mobility of the workforce is the opening of international economies and their labour markets to foreign workers, which is caused by significant disparities in the standards of living and wages between specific countries. According to the International Labour Organization, in 2013 there were more than 150 million migrant workers worldwide (over 60% of the total number of migrants worldwide). Three-quarters of these migrants resided in high-income countries. The unwavering interest in labour-related migration, both in regard to the migrants themselves as well as the host countries, contributes to the emergence of new research in this area. The main purpose of the conference, apart from the presentation of the latest research findings concerning contemporary economic migration, is to create an opportunity to discuss trends and issues related to labour mobility. The representatives of the scientific community, the business community as well as practitioners and migrants will all take part in the event. The focus of the conference will be primarily on the following topics:

—— migration of high- and low-skilled workers

—— state policies concerning economic migration

—— legal regulations concerning economic migration

—— brain drain and brain gain processes

—— new categories of migrants, emerging due to changes in work arrangements

—— migration and transfer of knowledge, know-how and innovation

—— citizens of Eastern European countries on the Polish and European labour markets

The Conference has interdisciplinary character. We invite speakers who are migration professionals representing various scientific disciplines, including European studies experts, historians, political scientists, sociologists, lawyers, culture experts, cultural anthropologists as well as representatives of other disciplines.

Conference languages – polish / english
