Project “Gdynia Three and what’s next? Emigration Educational Plans of the Students of the III Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace im. Marynarki Wojennej in Gdynia”

Each year, the high school leaving exam (matura) is passed by hundreds of thousands of young Poles, who face an important decision on their future career path. Most of them plan to go to college, and some of them wish to study abroad. What is their motivation? What do they imagine foreign universities are like? What do they plan on doing after graduation? How do they perceive their incoming emigration?

These are the questions which made us take up a scientific project implemented in cooperation with the III Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace im. Marynarki Wojennej in Gdynia. The aim of the study was to learn about the educational plans of the 2020 seniors of the III Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace im. Marynarki Wojennej in Gdynia, who intend to take up studies abroad and their reasons for this decision.

The III Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace im. Marynarki Wojennej in Gdynia is one of the top high schools in Poland. In the ranking of general secondary schools of 2020, prepared by the “Perspektywy” magazine, the “Gdynia Three” placed fourth. The school conducts classes profiled for the international high school exam. Currently, over 50 seniors are enrolled in them. The verification conducted by the school shows that each year, on average, 30 graduates take up studies at foreign universities.

The project included two research stages – an online survey and in-depth interviews. The research ended with a publication of a report which is available online in Polish – DOWNLOAD.

Another edition of the project is planned in which the research group will be extended to include students of other Tri-City schools.
